Remember My Cleft Chin

These are songs that will be on ep/demo 2+3. There will be at least one more song in this collection coming later to make it at least 5 songs in total. Both these songs have guitars so nevermind what I said in the previous post.

*PICTURE EXPIRED*
First up is a cover called “Remember Me This Way” by one of my all time favourite bands THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS. I kept this song simple to help me make my mixes easier to do and I believe it worked enough to make an mp3 available for download. This is another attempt to make lo-fi bedroom music, but damn that disco beat keeps trying to sneak in. I recently tried to re-do the vocals because I sang some of the lyrics wrong (eg., the entire second verse) and it is more embarrassing than the swarm of flat notes at the end, but I found out I can’t reach those low notes anymore so…

*PICTURE EXPIRED*
Second up is “Cleft Chin”, a song that was written when I was a spiteful teenager. To show what I mean, this was originally my drivel-ful ode to that guy who played the lead in CLASH OF THE TITANS, a movie I’ve never seen; just clips of Medusa slithering around and the guy fighting a giant piece of claymation and that was good enough to spark a bratty song. I tried to re-do the vocals to get rid of the reverb, but the new vocals sucked so bad. Anyway, this song is a party song and I think it’s totally fun so please check it out!
You can hear “Cleft Chin” at The Navel4eve Online Conservatory where I replaced “Blue Cigarette” for being too reverby.

so how's the new album coming along? got any new tracks made?

you're in for a big surprise! keep waiting, i will eventually make another LJ post. i need pictures first though... and i have a trick up my sleeve that will take care of that. so maybe soon?

so you've been practicing with flash? looks like you're coming along in that respect. are you going to hide the lyrics and songs and stuff? i spent some time clicking and dragging to get those tease-links to work. i made the word MEDIA appear really big and shifted the frame to the top left of the window, but that's it. what's the secret to downloading the songs??

don't bother responding to any more comments in this thread because i've decided i won't reply, since this is an old entry. that's just my rule for livejournal, i'm very aloof, don't take it personally. new entries only for me! and don't expect me to reply immediately either, because i'm a cool person and constantly busy doing things. especially on weekends, when the cool kids are out doing stuff, i'm very hard to get in touch with online. bon nuit!

do you mean that willy wonka is british and has a stiff upper lip? that's all i could find on google when i researched your comment.

ferris bueller's day off is a classic coming-of-age film that interweaves light-hearted comedy and wholesome fun with poignant real world issues, dealing with the lack of psychological agency prevalent in the baby boomer generation framed by suburban wealth and cold war fears. i don't remember if there were drugs. i know there was a 'cabaret voltaire' poster though! this simultaneously recalls the legendary electronic musical artists and an enmeshment with the hubs of the bohemian crowd of 19th century paris that responded to the rise of a rigid bourgeois class.

k you sold me on the luke/alanis comic. where do i buy a copy?

navel4eve
navel4eve

k this is a reply to your comment here and the one about scanning lost comics that is above your comment here.

isn't "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" a drug movie? do they not do bonghits in that one? or am i totally not remembering it at all because it's a lame movie (but not in my youth, as already stated).

the Luke Skywalker vs Alanis Morrissette is a good one because i actually drew them decent!

ROALD DAHL! R.I.P!! What happened to Willy Wonka's upper lip? i am boycotting that movie because of that!

haha why u lie lol. i suppose instead of scanning those lost comics you'll just recreate them with your illustration software because you've been practicing with them to make online comics? i won't lie to you, i probably wouldn't read the one about luke and alanis.

pps - that's what that part of the alphabet would look like with an extra 'p' and without 'q' and 'r' haha.

i don't understand about the stoner comment but i'm still looking for a pair of fake eyeglasses to make me look intellectual, so i guess that's why i still like 'real genius' and 'weird science'?

speaking of alice in wonderland, the new wonka movie is coming out soon--the one based on the vintage fantastical children's tale by that person with the cool name. oxide pang? alien sun?

navel4eve
navel4eve

NOOOOOOOO!!! i lied again. i just remembered, i made a comic series back in the day based on "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" called "Ferris" so i guess i enjoyed that movie in my youth. if only i could find those comics, i'd scan and show. i also did one on "The Arsenio Hall Show" and, one of my favourites, "Star Wars" where Luke Skywalker is battling Alanis Morrissette.

navel4eve
navel4eve

i'll have to re-watch "Ferris Buelller's Day Off" again to see if it's still lame. but i did like "Real Genius" and "Weird Science" and i think i still do. is that because i am not a stoner and i carry around a pair of eyeglasses in a handbag in case i want to get people to ask me "do you wear contacts?".

i did not realize that about the treadmill thing because i don't remember what the "Red Queen" is about. but now my memories are slowly returning to me. TRAVELLING WITHOUT MOVING! yes! that's totally it and no wait... that is from Frank Herbert's sci-fi classic "Dune". just kidding, i know "The Red Queen" is taken from "Alice in Wonderland" a classic magical imagination book by Lewis Carroll.

i don't get the 'q' and 'r' joke.

p. s. - that's what the alphabet would look like without 'q' and 'r'. haw haw just kidding. the real p.s. is: are we talking about treadmills as part of the red queen metaphor? sugoi! that's japanese for 'amazing'.

Anonymous

oh and haha, re. the treadmill. that made me lol. i saw some lame commercial recently where a teen was playing on a treadmill and fell and shot backwards. he had long hair and i thought how funny it'd be if his hair got caught in it and was pulled out by the roots.

the treadmills at my gym back in virginia were getting old and worn out and the belts would periodically catch at higher speeds, depending on where one would set their foot down while jogging. so i'd be jogging along and suddenly the belt would just stop and i'd lurch forward, but since the whole belt would still be running i'd have to catch my balance really quickly again and keep going, but then it'd do it again until i managed to hit the stop button. i was stubborn and kept using the same machine, i just had to memorize the bad spots. added an extra challenge.

yeah, they even have a 'banana skit' just like at the beginning of mia's album.

hehe, i don't think i've ever seen 'the breakfast club' but only because i hate molly ringworm. no wait i've seen that one. just not her other movies. maybe that movie isn't a classic, but it's cool to be retro or relieving for the 30-something mtv workers to justify their obsolescence with retro awards? they should have selected 'ferris bueller's day off' or 'real genius' or 'weird science'.

anyway, 'the red queen' seems like a good book to read even if you disagree with him because it provides a lot to think about/challenge/argue with/etc.

i had a dream about francis gomer. he stole an old book from a church per my request, but then wouldn't hand it over! i won't say what happened next, but it wasn't pretty!

i read some of the 'urban dictionary' definitions for 'hollaback girl', some are pretty funny:

1. Hollaback Girl

A girl that is 35 years of age trying to pretend she's cheerleader and sex idol.

Gwen Stefani is an example of cronehood.

navel4eve
navel4eve

Re: what can i get for ten dolla? any-ting you want

oh yes, Gwen Stefani. i totally know who that is and i can see how similar that song is to MIA songs. like it's got cheerleader vocals and hip hop beats and what else besides hot pink in their wardrobes? last time i was at the gym, i didn't know what i was doing and pressed a sequence of buttons and the machine that i was on that has the treadmill thing went really fast and i didn't know how to turn it off and i felt like a gym newbie cliche.

i caught bits of the MTV Movie Awards this morning on TV. one part, they were giving a special award to the 80s teen flick "The Breakfast Club" because it is a lot of people's favourite movie and a lot of people really like it and consider it a classic movie. i kept thinking, have they seen this movie recently in their post-adolescent years? Because i have and it's got some pretty bad dialogue in it and i was disappointed because i remember really liking it when i was younger. something similar is going on with the non-fiction book "The Red Queen" by Matt Ridley. that was the first book/article/whatever i read on the evolution of whatever the book is about. and i liked it because it stimulated my brain and made me thirsty for more books; eg. "Non Zero", a bunch of books on physics, mother effing "Simulacra and Simulation" for crying out loud that book is the hardest book to read, etc. and then i read negative reviews on The Red Queen that was putting its content and author down. So, you will see here, as with the "Breakfast Club", is an example of "not knowing any better" and, yes, it is ok to bash people and tell them that their tastes are bad and then slyly introduce them to better music - i mean - books.

your other comment referred to Francis Gomer and the Sims. hehe. i should make a Sims2 sim of Frannie Bonbon!

what can i get for ten dolla? any-ting you want

at my gym they've been playing this song about 'harlem black girls' on the radio, and every time i heard it i thought "this sounds like a really bad MIA imitation--i wonder what loser ripped her off.."

now i know that it's actually 'holla back girl' or somesuch by gwen stefani. i ask you, is this just coincidence? i wonder. i wouldn't put anything past her.

btw i thought that red queen book was dumb. there were glimmers of intelligence and interesting points (especially the notion of 'cain genes' and the 'mask of cain', or simply the 'red queen' zero-sum metaphor itself--btw i need to read that nonzero book we talked about), but i think it was poorly constructed, poorly written, biased, and too narrow. i'm going to read other books on evolutionary psychology and selfish genes and such though, because i think this author is just not a good representative for an otherwise rich set of theories.

i see. yeah dunno why i thought it was flash. guess because of the animations and the glossy new interface and the totally original audioplayer image.

you should keep practicing. it of course just requires time and patience, like all technical skills. gomer would want you to vectorize and animate him and install him in your own sims world where he can give sim-sooda french lessons.

navel4eve
navel4eve

ya that was the part that confused me about your comment. but i *DID* practice some flash and gave up after i couldn't make a decent vectorized image of Francis Gomer.

oh hey wait. that's not flash at all! you fooled me good. i take back what i said about you practicing flash.

I wasn't able to listen until now. the LPD cover is awesome. you kick ass. more Ka-Spel covers, plz.

by the way, did you ever figure out tab for "Andromeda Suite"? also, I wanted to grab all of your tabs because I'm again pretending that I have any potential on the guitar and trying to learn random Mountain Goats, Pink Dots, and Slayer songs, but I can't find the site. where the hell is it?!

navel4eve
navel4eve

*SCREENED*
i'm keeping this screened cuz i want that site to die!!!!

navel4eve
navel4eve

oh gosh i just checked and the site's still there. does nothing ever die in geoshitties?

there seems to be a file for "andromeda suite". totally wasn't expecting it to be there since i don't even know how the song goes.

thanks for the feedback. it means a lot to me! i wasn't sure if anyone would like the LPD cover cuz it's so simple sounding. yet so endearing!

theophile
theophile

nah, man. the music is good, certainly, as is the production. but the vocals kick all sorts of ass. or should I say @$$, I forget if this is a G-rated LiveJournal.

thanks for the stealthy thing! I'll check that out!

navel4eve
navel4eve

yes this is a g-rated livejournal as every livejournal should be. but you can say "ass" if you'd like since i've heard that word many times on TV at 3:00 in the afternoon. same goes with "shit" mostly cuz i said "geoshitties" and didn't even know i used the s-word.

thanks again for the comments. more ka-spel songs! yeah, yeah, yeah!! whatever happened to that idea of outdoing cloud zero? bringing it down and turning it into fog!!!

So have you guessed who is the secret potential roommate? Well actually there's 2 people one guy and one girl...you know them both...

navel4eve
navel4eve

you mean a guy that used to be my roommate? that's you! unless you know Dan from many years ago who roomed with me and these girls until he broke up with one of the girls, then is it Dan???

is the girl nunich? that's all i can think of.

but if the people are not ex-roommates of mine then i am going to guess Timothy for the guy and for the girl... my cousin??? wait, i roomed with her already. forgot about that. i don't know who else we both know. Sophie??? Rich and Sophie??? oh... is it ihlathi and a new boyfriend? that's my final guess.

kakihara_004
kakihara_004

You're good!!!
One point for Timothy and another one for Nunich!!!
But Timothy asked me to find a new bname for him, because he found it to hard to say...TI-MO-THY..so I guess that he likes my proposition with Lucas...What name would fit him according to you?

navel4eve
navel4eve

I've always thought he looked like an angry Chucky the doll that kills. Child Prey!!!! hehe

i am bad with coming up with names. this is busting my brain.

kakihara_004
kakihara_004

Furry animal eh?
mmmm...
KYO!!! Dir en Grey's vocalist!!!!!
Or Furby, angry furby, furry furby....aaaaaarrggg I don't know!!!

navel4eve
navel4eve

aww man i wish i could change my name on a whim like that. Tim Hortons maybe? suggest that one and tell me what his reaction is, ok?

what's a bname? i thought maybe it was hipster talk for "band name". am i right again??? yeah, go to him with Tim Hortons. or Harveys. if he were a girl, i'd suggest Wendys or Burger King.

Lucas could fit him. if he were Lao or a dog or a kid on the daytime soap General Hospital, Lucky would definately work. what about weird names such as Gabriel but pronounced in French? does it have to be a "Western" name? what about stuff like Tassadar, Tarsonis, Emperor, Infested, Zeratul, but not necessarily those ones cuz i got them from StarCraft and they are already names of my Sims2 Sims. A name that would fit him, according to me, is a something you'd name a small furry animal. think about it.

I cant connect to myspace conservatory for some reason...:( I wanna hear Cleft chin !!!

navel4eve
navel4eve

always with you, man. how come? i was really busy today, but i'll mail you stuff as soon as possible or by the end of the week. whichever comes first.

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

sounds good. this version of cleft chin is as reverby as blue cigarette, i think.

navel4eve
navel4eve

no way! i mean, i know that there is major reverb on the vocals, but "blue cigarette" had reverb on every instrument so it sounded majorly reverbed to me. if both songs sound equally reverby, are you saying that i deleted blue cigarette, the catchiest song that will be on ep/demo 1+2, for nothing?

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

hmm they don't sound much different in terms of reverb to my ears so i think maybe you deleted blue cigarette, the catchiest song that will be on ep/demo 3+2=6, for nothing!

actually 'cleft chin' sounds more reverby to me! since there is major reverb on the vocals, it creates a space that doesn't fit with the rest of the non-reverby instruments, which makes it sound even more reverberatingly reverby!

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

i think the cleft chin track sounds pretty well-mixed, especially for a myspace version. i think there's a glitch in my browser though--i can't seem to click the lyrics section of the myspace player!

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

hehe is it ramstien? du hast! du du du.

navel4eve
navel4eve

i miss that sound. you never heard the version with the "industrial" drum kit, eh? that one had a german guy going "yoo! yoo! yoo!"

navel4eve
navel4eve

i'm talking about the "remember me this way" mp3 since that one's an actual mp3 and not crappy myspace audio. the quality of "cleft chin" is not worth discussing since i just mixed it all terribly. at least the kick drum can be heard this time, though.

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

the one where i kept laughing at the 'chikoo chikoo' sound.

ex_unlost

newest cleft chin i have is from october 15.

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

okay i got better speakers. than you! haha. and no i don't have the dumb stupid mp3 because you just posted the dumb stupid link to the navel4eve online ossuary.

i think that little tickety tick thing is just a glitch from the crappy farfignugen VII encoding algorithm.

if you want i'll find out what encoding tweaks flesh field uses. while i'm at it i'll ask them how to make high contrast cleavage navel tummy pictures for a bigger fanbase.

navel4eve

just get better speakers. don't argue with me. geez whiz! i'm not falling for "flesh field does this flesh field does that" this time. frauhover III for me. did you hear the mp3? you heard the the little tickety tick cymbal thing right? wouldn't have if i had used lame.

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

what do i need better speakers for just to say 'nice tune' or 'hated it'. i'll go find another musician on msn, like flesh field, to be my critiquing buddy and i'll use state-of-the-art speakers to listen and write dazzling essays in response that will dazzle the mind and inspire the heart!

frowenheiffer can't be better than lame. something is awry here. very, very awry. use lame. flesh field uses lame.

navel4eve
navel4eve

maybe get better speakers next time you want to critique a crappy mix? i used fraunhofer II or whatever encoder for the mp3s this time. i compared it with lame and fraunhofer II or whatever had better results. i did that because i couldn't find the post that had the lame tweaking links cuz i forgot it was left in the navel4eve journal...

navel4eve
navel4eve

yeah, no kidding. next time you should give one of those simple "nice tune" or "hated it" kind of comments.

ex_unlost
ex_unlost

but that's cool, i can tell you don't want to hear my opinion, so i'll just keep it to myself from now on. >(
